Purley Canoe Club held its annual “Go Paddling” Course in September 2021.
The course included:-
- One pool session, on Saturday evening at a swimming pool in Purley.
- A full day on a local reservoir in West Sussex.
- Concluding with a local river trip.
- Membership of Purley Canoe Club until 31st March 2022.
The Reservoir Day was held at Ardingly Reservoir on the 24/9/2021 with 8 Go Paddling members, plus 4 non member and 2 other Club members who were training for their British Canoeing Discover award. It was a lovely sunny calm day which was great for a good days paddle.
In the morning half the group went kayaking and the other half of the group went canoeing, whilst 2 other members had one to one coaching.
At lunch time Mike celebrated his birthday with some cakes.
After lunch the Kayaking group went canoeing whilst the other group went open boating.
At the end of the day some people also had some rescue practice or messed around on the open boat “Gunnel Bobbing” but he didn’t fall in.
Everyone had a great time and well done to the two club members who achieved their BC Discover award at the end of the day.
One of the Go Paddling members made the following comments about the day
“Had a great day. Everyone is so patient and helpful and I learnt a lot about paddling and it was good to do both kayak and canoe.
Let’s hope my straight line will finally improve “😄
